Reform in American History:
Major Movements and Patterns

February 3-16, 1996

This workshop will concentrate on the various reform movements (Progressive Movement, New Deal, Fair Deal, New Frontier, Great Society) that have shaped American economic, political and social institutions and have determined the course of the American experience and, therefore, its history. Questions of curriculum and materials to support teaching about contemporary demands for reform of education, health and debt management will also be addressed. All participants will be introduced to new sources of data and information through new technologies--Internet, on-line sources, Legislation, etc. Workshop participants will collaborate to create a course module with themes, topics for discussion, and reading selections. These materials will then be made available to outside scholars through the World Wide Web via the ASC Website. Through work on the curriculum project, participants will develop familiarity with the Internet and its potential for sharing information. For information on this workshop's resources, see the workshop resource page.
